Description

An original Grande Ballroom concert poster promoting performances by The Chambers Brothers at Detroit’s legendary venue on 1–2 September 1967, with support from The Lost Nation. Produced during the Grande Ballroom’s formative years, the poster captures a pivotal moment in the development of Detroit’s psychedelic and underground rock scene. Best known for their groundbreaking hit "Time Has Come Today," The Chambers Brothers blended psychedelic rock, soul, gospel and blues to create one of the defining sounds of the late 1960s. Their appearances at the Grande Ballroom placed them alongside many of the era’s most influential artists, helping cement the venue’s reputation as one of America’s premier destinations for emerging rock and countercultural music. Featuring bold period typography and striking portrait artwork, the poster is a classic example of the distinctive visual style associated with the Grande Ballroom’s celebrated concert series. This example comes directly from the personal collection of Mary Cobra (Mary Ramirez), founding guitarist of The Detroit Cobras, whose archive reflects a lifelong connection to Detroit’s musical heritage.
