Before the Bass Brothers put his name on a record, Marshall Mathers was one voice in a Detroit group called Soul Intent, rapping under the name M&M, and in 1995 that group pressed exactly one single on the local Mashin' Duck Records imprint.
The A-side, "F#@!in' Backstabber," carries a guest appearance by Proof—DeShaun Holton, the friend who had already been pushing Mathers into Detroit's battle circuit and who would later anchor D12. The insert prints a short piece of writing credited to him: "Backstabbers don't live too long. Around my way friendships betrayed. In the hood you die for that! So remember, the backstabber always loses in the end. A friend is a friend til the end—to eternity! The backstabber...shall never flourish."
All music produced and arranged by Manix for Mashin' Duck Records; cuts and scratches by DJ Butterfingers; all lyrics written and performed by M&M; engineered by Mike Nice for Bassment Sounds, the Ferndale operation that would shortly cut Infinite; artwork by M&M; manufactured and printed by Disc Makers in New Jersey. The B-side is "Biterphobia."
The tape has never been opened. It was submitted to Audio Media Grading and archived in April 2026, where it graded nine.
